China’s Alibaba articulates interest in investing in Pakistan

Islamabad (Web Desk): E-commerce giant Alibaba of China expressed interest, on Friday, in investing in Pakistan’s booming e-commerce sector.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar was called on in Islamabad by Max Bittner the leader of Alibaba delegation, who was on business visit.

The visiting delegation expressed that they were happy to see great headway being made in the realm of digitisation (of economy) in Pakistan, while recognizing efforts for the development of the e-commerce sector in the country. The growing e-Commerce market in Pakistan presents opportunities for entrepreneurs and companies and the group would also like to benefit from it, the delegation added.

Moreover, the delegation said they were impressed by the Pakistan’s progress made in the field of IT, telecom and broadband penetration.

Ishaq Dar appreciated the group’s interest to invest in the country and said that the expanding e-commerce sector could further assist the current government’s aim of comprehensive economic growth, promoting socio-economic development and providing livelihood for the marginalised segments of society, including women.
