Islamabad (Staff report): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Monday filed a plea in the Supreme Court, challenging the Election Reforms Act 2017.
Imran Khan submitted the petition in the apex court, under Article 184/3 of the Constitution, stating that a disqualified person cannot become head of a political party as stated in the Constitution.
He maintained that the ruling party had amended the Act allowing disqualified person to hold party office. The amendment is against Political Parties Order 2002 and in direct conflict with Article 204 and 175 of the Constitution.
The PTI chief urged the court to declare the Article 9, 10 and 203 of Election Reforms Act null and void through which disqualified Sharif made his way to the chairmanship.
Awami Muslim League leader Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has already moved the court against the recent electoral reforms.
On October 3, the PML-N had elected Sharif unopposed the president of the party after intra-party election months after his disqualification.
