SHC reinstates A. D. Khowaja as IGP Sindh

Karachi (Staff Report): The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday ordered Sindh government not to send the provincial Inspector General of Police (IGP) A. D. Khowaja on forced leave.

Karamat Hussain, the head of an NGO, and singer-cum-activist Shehzad Roy had filed a petition in the court, seeking restoration of A D Khowaja as Sindh police chief.

The court issued notices to the IGP and the Sindh government and adjourned the hearing till Jan 12.

According to a notification issued by the provincial government on December 19, Mushtaq Ahmed Mehar, an officer of Police Service of Pakistan, Additional Inspector General of Police, was allowed to look-after the charge of the post of Inspector General of Police in addition to his own duties, during leave period of Allah Dino Khawaja.

AD Khawaja was appointed as IG Sindh Police in March this year after the federal government removed former Sindh IGP Ghulam Hyder Jamali from his post.
