COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,615 new cases, 26 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 546,428 on Monday after 2,179 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 247,249 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 157,796 in Punjab, 67,214in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,823 in Balochistan, , 41,418 in Islamabad, 4,909 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 9,019 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 11,683 with 26 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 501,252 after another 1,278 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the first batch of COVID-19 vaccine arrived in Pakistan from China, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Health Dr Faisal Sultan announced on Monday.

A special Pakistan Air Force (PAF) plane carrying 500,000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine landed at the Noor Khan Airbase in Islamabad on Monday (today) morning.

According to the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC), all necessary measures have been put in place for the vaccine storage in Islamabad and its onward transportation to other parts of the country.

A vaccine nerve center has been established at NCOC along with vaccine administration and coordination centres at provincial and district level.

Moreover, Primary and middle schools have reopened today (Monday) along with universities in the second phase under the coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs).

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 102.083,000 million and death toll tops 2.209,000 million.
