COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,037 new cases, 40 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 958,408 on Thursday after 1,037 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 337,674 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 346,301 in Punjab, 138,068 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 27,178 in Balochistan, 82,706 in Islamabad, 6,138 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 20,343 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per National Command and Operation (NCOC) data, 46,145 tests were conducted while positivity ratio remained 2.2%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 22,321 with 40 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 904,320 after another 836 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has given approval for the emergency use of Moderna vaccine following the announcement by the United States (US) that it would provide 2.5 million doses to Pakistan under the Covax facility.

Moreover, the Ministry of National Health Services has issued guidelines for the use of the vaccine.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 182.989 million and death toll tops 3.962 million.
