Man jailed, fined in Lahore for getting married without first wife’s permission

Lahore (Staff Report): A man in Lahore was sent to jail for six months and also imposed Rs 200,000 fine by a local court for getting married the second time without taking permission from his first wife.

Judicial magistrate Jawad Naqvi took up Ayesha Bibi's appeal in which she said that her husband, Shahzad Saqib, had married for the second time without getting her permission. "To get married without your first wife's permission is breaking the law," she said in her appeal.

She asked that her husband's second marriage be declared illegal by the court.

The magistrate awarded Saqib six months in prison and a Rs200,000 fine.
