President approves Asif Saeed Khosa's appointment as Chief Justice of Pakistan

Islamabad (Staff Report): President Dr Arif Alvi on Wednesday approved the appointment of Justice Asif Saeed Khosa as the next Chief Justice of Pakistan.

According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Law, Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, who is the senior most judge of the Supreme Court (SC), will take charge as the chief justice on January 18, a day after the retirement of the incumbent Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar.

His appointment has been approved under sub-article 3 of Article 175-A and Article 177.

Justice Khosa will serve as the chief justice until December 20, 2019.

He assumed office of a Supreme Court judge in December 2016. Prior to that, He served as a judge of Lahore High Court (LHC).

Mr. Khosa was born in Dera Ghazi Khan on December 21, 1954. He graduated from Government College, Lahore. After completing his master’s degree from the University of Punjab, Khosa went to the United Kingdom (UK) for higher studies. He obtained an LLM Degree from the University of Cambridge.

Asif Saeed Khosa became a lawyer after completing his education in 1976.

Before becoming a judge, he was an advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Lahore High Court.
