Lahore (Web Desk): A district court in Lahore on Tuesday sent Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Punjab senior leader and Member National Assembly (MNA) Rana Sanaullah to jail on a 14-day judicial remand.
The PML-N leader was presented in the court by the officials of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF).
During the hearing, the ANF requested for a remand for Rana Sanullah. The court ordered to send the PML-N leader to prison on 14-day judicial remand.
Strict security arrangements were made ahead of Sanaullah’s appearance before the court. A large contingent of police was positioned inside and outside the court premises.
According to Superintendent of Police (Security) Faisal Shahzad, over 400 policemen were deployed “to deal with an unpleasant situation”.
On Monday, ANF arrested Rana Sanaullah from Motorway near Sukheki while he was on his way to Lahore from Faisalabad to head a meeting of his party's parliamentary advisory board.
The ANF, in a statement had said that drugs were recovered from Sana’s vehicle.
A spokesman of ANF Lahore had stated that a case was being filed against the PML-N leader in accordance with the Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997, after a large stash of contraband was recovered from his vehicle.
Sanaullah was elected Member of the National Assembly from Faisalabad in July 2018 general elections. The former Punjab law minister was appointed president of PML-N Punjab in May this year.
The opposition parties strongly condemned the arrest of Rana Sanaullah.
PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has convened a high-level meeting of the party today in Lahore to discuss the arrest and a future strategy.
