Lahore (Web Desk): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday granted protective bail to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president and former Punjab chief minister (CM) Parvez Elahi in multiple cases of terrorism and corruption till May 15.
The former CM appeared before Justice Asjad Javaid Ghural's bench.
Elahi had filed an application in court for protective bail in a case registered with the Ghalib Market police station.
In his petition, the former Punjab CM contented that the LHC had granted him protective bail till May 6. However, despite court order, an operation was carried out by police at his residence to arrest him.
The petitioner requested the court that contempt proceedings should be initiated against the inspector general (IG) of the Punjab Police, the Anti-Corruption DG and others for violating the court orders.
During the hearing, Parvez Elahi's lawyer argued that cases were being filed against him on a "daily basis".
The court responded: "If any new case is registered, file for the protective bail again."
Earlier today, the LHC rejected Elahi's request to stop the police from arresting him.
Former CM's son Rasikh Elahi had filed the petition against the police action on his father's house last week.
During the hearing, Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar also issued notices to IG Punjab Police and the director general Anti-Corruption Establishment.(ACE).
The court also summoned the details of the cases registered against the PTI president and adjourned the hearing till May 8.
Earlier on Monday night, police raided Elahi's residence in Gujrat two days after they conducted a similar operation at his residence in Lahore.
On April 28, ACE Punjab, and the Lahore police conducted a raid to arrest the former chief minister from his Zahoor Elahi Road residence in Lahore.
At least 19 individuals, includieng servants working in the household of the former Punjab chief minister and PTI workers protesting at the scene were reportedly arrested by the police.
The police officials had thoroughly searched the house but were unable to find Elahi.
Anti-riot personnel also baton-charged the employees of the Elahi who resisted the cops during the operation that continued for six hours.
Later, the Punjab Police booked the former Punjab CM and others under terrorism charges for "attacking" law enforcers following the mid-night raid at his Lahore residence.
