Zardari, Fazl call on PM Shehbaz, discuss political situation

Islamabad (Web Desk/Agencies): Former president and Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday.

In a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s House, political situation in the country came under discussion, the PM Office said.

The development comes following the announcement by President Dr Arif Alvi who recommended April 30 to hold general elections in Punjab.

"President Dr Arif Alvi has announced to hold general elections of Punjab Assembly on April 30, Sunday," President’s office said in a tweet.

Earlier in the day, the Election Commission of Pakistan met with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja in the chair to finalise polls date as directed by the Supreme Court (SC).

Later, the ECP, in its letter to President Alvi, had recommended that the polls for the provincial assembly in Punjab can be held between April 30, May 07.
