COVID-19: Pakistan reports 3,262 new infections, 55 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 410,072 on Friday after 3,262 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 179,240 cases were reported in Sindh, 121,753 in Punjab, 48,264 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 17,333 in Balochistan, 31,639 in Islamabad, 4,692 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 7,151 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 8,260 with 55 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 350,305 after another 3,354 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, President Dr Arif Alvi has announced that the nation will observe Youm-e-Dua on Friday to seek God's protection against the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking after an interaction with ulema in Islamabad, he said a strategy involving a combination of prayers, precautionary measures, and taking care of the weak segments of society will be pursued in the second wave of Covid-19.

He said religious scholars have an important role in spreading awareness about precautionary measures and that ulema had reaffirmed the standard operating procedures issued for mosques on April 17.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 65 million and death toll tops 1.5 million.
