COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,508 new cases, 31 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 550,540 on Thursday after 1,508 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 248,919 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 159,311 in Punjab, 67,803 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,840 in Balochistan, 41,655 in Islamabad, 4,912 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 9,100 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 11,833 with 31 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 505,818 after another 1,772 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Covax programme for Covid-19 vaccines has published its first distribution list, planning enough doses for dozens of countries to immunise more than three per cent of their populations by mid-year.

As per a statement, the initial distribution was in line with a target “to protect the most vulnerable groups such as health care workers” in the first half of the year.

Countries will receive doses in proportion to population size, with the most going to India (97.2m), Pakistan (17.2m), Nigeria (16m), Indonesia (13.7m), Bangladesh (12.8m) and Brazil (10.6m).

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 102.942,000 million and death toll tops 2.232,000 million.
