Seven women among 8 dead as jeep plunges into ravine in Haveli

Haveli (Staff Report): At least eight people, including seven women of the same family, were killed while four others were critically injured when a passenger van plunged into a ravine in the remote and hilly Haveli district of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, an official said.

The family members were returning to Kahuta after attending a wedding in Haalan village when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve, he said.

"Consequently, the jeep fell more than 500 feet down into a ravine," he added.

Five women died on the spot, while two of the six injured succumbed to their injuries while on their way to the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital in Haveli, Hussain said. The driver was also among the injured.

Haalan is located some 7 kilometres away from Kahuta, the district headquarters of Haveli situated along the line of control between Pakistan and India.
