COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,313 new infections, 18 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 316,060 on Wednesday after another 614 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 337,573 after 1,313 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 147,295 cases were reported in Sindh, 105,197 in Punjab, 39,889 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 16,000 in Balochistan, 20,471 in Islamabad, 4,306 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 4,415 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,867 with 18 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, The National Coordination Committee (NCC) has ruled out the option of imposing a complete lockdown in the country and endorsed all the measures announced by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Oct 28 which included strict implementation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) at public places and reduction in timings for markets and commercial activities.

The decision was taken in a meeting of the NCC chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad on Tuesday. The forum also decided to continue the smart lockdown policy and strictly implement the NCOC decisions.

All the four provincial chief ministers attended the NCC meeting through video link.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 47.5 million and death toll tops 1.21 million.
