PIA special plane carrying 1 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine reaches Islamabad

Islamabad (Web Desk): A special plane of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) carrying one million doses of Sinopharm vaccine reached in Islamabad on Saturday.

According to a statement issued by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) Pakistan will be receiving a total of 11 million doses of Sinopharm, Sinovac and Cansino vaccines during June.

"Steps are being taken to ensure the uninterrupted supply of Covid-19 vaccine in the country and the vaccination capacity is being ramped up," the statement added.

Earlier, a special flight of national flag carrier transported a consignment of half-million doses of Sinovac vaccine from Beijing to Islamabad.

Pakistan received 1.2 million doses of the AstraZeneca Oxford vaccine last month while the country has recently opened registration for all adults.

On the other hand, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 930,511 on Saturday after 1,923 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

As per the NCOC data, 50,393 tests were conducted while positivity ratio remained 3.81%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 21,189 with 84 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 860,385 after another 4,380 virus recoveries were reported.
