Pakistan is critical for the long-term stability: US Secretary of State

Washington (Web Desk): US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, said to media on Wednesday, Pakistan is critical for the long-term stability of South Asia.

According to details, after meeting with Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif who is in US for a three-day crucial tour, Rex Tillerson talked to media and expressed suspicions about Pakistan’s stability in South Asia.

He remarked while speaking about US's policy towards South Asia, "Not just Afghanistan, but it is the importance of Pakistan and Pakistan's long-term stability as well."  

"We want Pakistan's government to be stable, peaceful.. many of the same issues they are struggling inside Pakistan are our issues. So we think there is an opportunity to strengthen that relationship."

He said, Pakistan's relation with the US is "extraordinarily important". 

According to media sources, he discussed about the reaction of Pakistan after US new policy but he did not admired Pakistan’s counter terrorism efforts and sacrifices.     

While speaking to media, the foreign minister Khawaja Asif said, he has conveyed to the United States that any Indian role in Afghanistan is not acceptable to Pakistan and strongly rejected allegation of harbouring terrorists in Pakistan.

“Hopeful that the two countries will jointly tackle issues and the US and other countries would play a positive role in this regard,” Asif added. 

He also reiterate Pakistan's stance on the need for an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned political approach to achieving peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The foreign minister said the meeting with Tillerson was cordial and the US secretary of state has accepted an invitation to visit Pakistan.
