COVID-19: Pakistan reports 513 new cases, 5 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 282,553 on Saturday after another 285 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 298,025 after 513 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 130,253 cases were reported in Sindh, 97,118 in Punjab, 36,498 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 13,157 in Balochistan, 15,726 in Islamabad, 2,960 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 2,313 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,340 with 5 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the federal education ministry has declared Saturday as a working day in all federal educational institutions for the current year.

In a letter addressed to the Federal Directorate of Education, the ministry also revoked the annual winter vacation for remedial classes to make up for the months of education that was missed due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The ministry asked the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) and the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC) to put off the examination schedule for two weeks.

Institutional heads have been asked to plan and design strategies for an optimal academic management to minimise the loss of education and help them cope with the academic pressures in reduced timelines without compromising the standard of education.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 26.68 million and death toll tops 874,000.
