Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,058,405 on Friday after 4,745 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 394,748 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 361,458 in Punjab, 147,026 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 30,967 in Balochistan, 89,117 in Islamabad, 8,551 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 26,086 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 23,702 with 67 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 954,711 after another 2,095 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Moderna Inc (MRNA.O) on Thursday said that its COVID-19 shot was about 93% effective through six months after the second dose, showing hardly any change from the 94% efficacy reported in its original clinical trial.

That compares favourably to data from Pfizer Inc (PFE.N) and BioNTech SE (22UAy.DE) last week in which they said their vaccine's efficacy waned around 6% every two months, declining to around 84% six months after the second shot.

Both the Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines are based on messenger RNA (mRNA) technology.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 201.722 million and death toll tops 4,280,663.
