COVID-19: Pakistan reports 2,118 new cases, 52 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 492,594 on Wednesday after 2,118 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 220,501 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 142,058 in Punjab, 59,955 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 18,280 in Balochistan, 38,531 in Islamabad, 4,873 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 8,396 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 10,461 with 52 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 448,393 after another 4,033 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the federal cabinet on Tuesday approved the purchase of COVID-19 vaccine by the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination and exempted it from import duty and the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules.

The cabinet’s approval for the purchase of the vaccine comes nearly a month after it had allocated $150 million for procurement of the coronavirus vaccine.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 85 million and death toll tops 1.8 million.
