Dog saves wedding guests from suicide bomber

Maiduguri, Nigeria (Web Desk): A dog has died after attacking a suicide bomber who was about to blow her explosives in a wedding ceremony packed with a large number of guests.

According to Nigerian media, the teenage bomber tried to detonate her vest in a the middle of a group of people at a wedding on Sunday in the Nigerian village of Belbelo, before a dog stopped her, dying in the process.

The dog jumped on and attacked the suicide bomber she moved towards the crowd, forcing to detonate her vest there and then instead of in the group of people.

Police spokesman Victor Isuku said in a statement: "This forced the suspect to detonate her explosive, while battling to wriggle herself from the claws and jaws of the dog. The dog stopped the teenage suicide bomber from detonating her strapped improvised explosive devices on the wedding crowd of people."

He said that the attempted suicide bombing occurred shortly after three separate suicide bombers blew themselves up at two other nearby locations.

Police gave no details about the dog, who is believed to have belonged to a guest.

The suicide bomber and the dog both died during the struggle.
