PML-N raises reservations over Hasan Askari, urges ECP to review appointment

Lahore (Staff Report): The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has expressed reservations over the appointment of Dr Hasan Askari as caretaker Punjab chief minister.

Addressing a press conference, former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said Askari was ignorant about the constitution adding that the high-profile appointment in Punjab would cast doubts about the whole election process.

‘The individuals proposed by PML-N were of better repute without any doubt of partiality,’ claimed the former chief executive.

He advocated that the interim set up should be neutral and the impartiality should be visible, terming Askari’s appointment ‘unfortunate’.

He also cited a statement of Hassan Askari that ti was too difficult to conduct elections in simmering heat, asking ECP to review its decision over the appointment.

Earlier the day, the ECP announced that Dr. Hassan Askari will take charge as the caretaker chief minister of Punjab.

ECP Additional Secretary Akhtar Nazir made the announcement at a press conference. The ECP nominated the analyst and professor as caretaker Punjab chief minister after a parliamentary committee failed to reach a consensus over the proposed candidates.
