COVID-19: Pakistan reports 756 new cases, 7 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,515,014 on Monday after 756 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 570,261 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 502,844 in Punjab, 217,187 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 35,388 in Balochistan, 134,643 in Islamabad, 11,577 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 43,114 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 37,518 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 2.01%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 30,272 with 7 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,455,162 after another 780 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, World Health Organization (WHO) has lauded the government of Pakistan for fully vaccinating over 100 million individuals against COVID-19.

In a tweet, the WHO Country Office in Pakistan on its Twitter handle congratulated the country on achieving a huge target of mass inoculations against the contagious virus.

The WHO said this indicates the tremendous efforts made by the government of Pakistan to ensure that everyone across the country has access to COVID-19 vaccination.

On Friday, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, who also heads the NCOC, announced that 100 million people across the country are now fully vaccinated.

In a tweet the minister further stated that more than 127 million Pakistanis had received at least one dose of the anti-Covid jab.

“We are very close to achieving vaccination for all eligible citizens.” he said.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 446,741 million and death toll tops 6,020,846.
