Sheikh Rashid, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi test positive for COVID-19

Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmad and former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi have tested positive for coronavirus.

According to a statement by the Railway ministry on Monday, Rashid is showing no symptoms of the virus. However, he has undergone self-isolation for two weeks, the ministry added.

Abbasi was tested on Sunday for the virus, the result of which was obtained on Monday. Sources added the PML-N leader is isolating at his residence.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan on Monday rose to 103,671after 4,728 new infections were reported over the past 24 hours.

Overall, 38,903 cases were reported in Punjab, 38,108 in Sindh, 13,487 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 6,516 in Balochistan, 932 in Gilgit Baltistan, 5,329 in Islamabad, and 396 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 2,067 with 65 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours while at least 34,355 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

The number of coronavirus cases has continued to soar despite the country remained under a lockdown nearly one and a half month.
