COVID-19: Pakistan reports 449 new cases, 9 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,277,160 on Monday after 567 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 471,963 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 441,176 in Punjab, 178,643 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 33,325 in Balochistan, 107,151 in Islamabad, 10,394 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,495 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 41,709 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 1.07%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 28,547 with 9 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,225,880 after another 517 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the NCOC has emphasized on stepping up administration of second dose to eligible individuals.

The NCOC meeting was held in Islamabad with Chairperson Asad Umar in the chair. The forum was apprised on progress of mass vaccination drive across the country.

The NCOC expressed satisfaction over vaccination of students of 12-18 years age group in all federating units.

The forum stressed upon reaching out to school administration and parents besides all possible facilitation for optimum vaccination.

The NCOC also emphasized on stepping up administration of second dose to eligible individuals.

Asad Umer appreciated the synergetic efforts of all stake holders for bringing down the positivity ratio of COVID-19 and implementing obligatory vaccination regime for enhancing public safety and well-being.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 250.698 million and death toll tops 5,066,852.
