Chinese FM to discuss bilateral ties, regional situation with Pakistani leadership

Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will hold formal talks with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday.

During the talks, the two sides will discuss bilateral relations, China Pakistan Economic Corridor, regional security situation and the Afghan peace process.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Minister will also meet Prime Minister Imran Khan as well as the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

He is also scheduled to meet the President-elect Arif Alvi and various leaders of the opposition parties.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrived in Pakistan on a three-day official visit on Friday.

According to the press briefing by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Thursday, the Chinese State Councilor is visiting Pakistan upon the invitation of Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

She said besides holding talks and a joint press conference with Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Wang Yi will also meet major Pakistani leaders.

The spokesperson said the two sides will exchange views on bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of mutual interest.

 “The two sides have maintained frequent high-level exchanges and pragmatic cooperation in various fields has progressed smoothly,” she added.

Hua Chunying further said the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor has achieved fruitful results.

“We hope and look forward to this visit, continue the traditional friendship between China and Pakistan , promote mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and push China-Pakistan all-weather strategic partnership to a new height” the spokesperson said.

The visit of the Chinese Foreign Minister would be the first high-level exchange between China and Pakistan after the formation of new government in Pakistan.
