COVID-19: Pakistan reports 5,312 new cases, 105 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 710,829 on Friday after 5,312 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 267,970 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 243,295 in Punjab, 96,128 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 20,097 in Balochistan, 64,173 in Islamabad 5,097 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 14,069 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 15,229 with 105 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 625,789 after another 2,390 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has reportedly granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to another Chinese vaccine, CoronaVac.

This would be the fifth COVID-19 vaccine and the third Chinese vaccine to be used in Pakistan.

Earlier, the DRAP had granted the EUA to China’s two-dose Sinopharm and single-dose Convidecia vaccine developed by the Cansino Biologicals Inc. UK’s AstraZeneca and Russian Sputnik V vaccines have also been approved by the authority.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 132.730 million and death toll tops 2.880 million.
