COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,650 new infections, 9 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 318,881 on Monday after another 464 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 344,839 after 1,650 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 150,169 cases were reported in Sindh, 106,922 in Punjab, 40,657 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 16,106 in Balochistan, 21,861 in Islamabad, 4,366 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 4,758 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,977 with 9 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) on Monday warned that the positivity ratio of Covid-19 had increased to 4.5pc across the country with a rapid increase in 15 major cities.

During a meeting, the NCOC observed that the overall positivity rate stands at 4.5% with Hyderabad reporting the highest at 16.59%. Multan recorded 15.97%, Gilgit 15.38, Muzafarabad 14.12 % , Mirpur 11.11% , Peshawar 9.69%, Quetta 8.03%, Islamabad 7.48 %, Karachi 7.12% , Lahore 5.37 % and Rawalpindi reported 4.63% positivity rate.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 50 million and death toll tops 1.25 million.
