COVID-19: Pakistan reports 955 new cases, 29 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 1,257,188 on Saturday after 955 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 462,295 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 435,512 in Punjab, 175,584 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 33,069 in Balochistan, 106,058 in Islamabad 10,344 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,326 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 45,557 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 2.14%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 28,087 with 29 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,185,749 after another 1,222 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) govt has launched action against unvaccinated people across the province.

In Peshawar, the teams of the health department vaccinated twenty-two commuters on spot at various terminals of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).

In Mardan, the teams of district administration arrested seventeen shopkeepers for non-vaccination and sealed eighteen shops.

In Charsadda and Nowshera districts, several shopkeepers were also arrested besides sealing 15 shops due to violation of COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Moreover, the United States will accept the use by international visitors of Covid-19 vaccines authorised by US regulators or the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention have said.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 238.028 million and death toll tops 4,857,860.
