'IMF ready to support Pakistan,' says Lagarde after meeting PM Imran

Dubai (Agencies): Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday met International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde on the sidelines of the World Government Summit in Dubai.

During the meeting, Lagarde assured the PM that the organisation was ready to support Pakistan in its efforts to shore up the crippling economy.

“In my meeting today with IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde there was a convergence of our views on the need to carry out deep structural reforms to put the country on the path of sustainable development in which the most vulnerable segments of society are protected,” PM said in a tweet.

“Prime Minister @ImranKhanPTI meets Ms. Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the sidelines of the World Government Summit in Dubai,” the tweet added.

“@ImranKhanPTI and I met today in Dubai to discuss #Pakistan’s economic prospects in the context of a possible IMF-supported program. Protecting the poor and strengthening governance are key priorities to improve people’s living standards,” Lagarde said in a tweet.

On Sunday evening, PM Imran Khan addressed the 7th edition of the WGS ─ an annual gathering of heads of states and governments, policy makers and experts. The summit will provide an opportunity to discuss improvement in governance through reform, innovation and technology.
