NDMA issues flood warning for areas in Punjab, AJK

Lahore (Staff Report): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a weather advisory on Monday warning that Islamabad, upper Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir could be hit with a flood over the next 24 hours.

According to the press release issued by the NDMA, scattered rainfall is also expected in southern Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and Gilgit Baltistan (GB) over the same time period.

The NDMA alert also stated that Punjab, KP, GB and the upper catchment areas of the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers are expected to receive heavy rainfall at isolated places between July 11 and 13.

The authority cautioned that Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej may experience medium to high floods due to expected heavy rains in the next few days.

The NDMA advised relevant departments and individuals to take precautionary measures to ensure safety and protection in case of expected floods.

It has also called for concerned departments to issue alerts, clean the sewerage and drainage system of cities and warned individuals to refrain from swimming in pools of gathered water and being near electric wires during the rains.
