New Delhi (Agencies): India's electoral commission on Sunday announced national elections, with voting in the world's biggest democracy to run from April 11 to May 19.

The vote will see Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) run for a second term.

The premier tweeted shortly after the electoral commission's announcement, urging people to come out in droves to vote.
