COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,786 new cases, 43 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 595,239 on Wednesday after 1,786 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 260,150 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 179,654 in Punjab, 74,433 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 19,141 in Balochistan, 46,229 in Islamabad 4,959 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 10,673 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 13,324 with 43 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 565,216 after another 1,393 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood on Wednesday announced that the educational institutions in seven cities of Punjab province will close down from March 15 for two weeks due to spike in COVID-19 cases.

Addressing a press conference along with Special Assistant to the Prime Minster (SAPM) on health Dr Faisal Sultan after a meeting at the National Command and Operations (NCOC), the minister said that institutions in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujarat, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Sialkot will be closed from March 15 for spring holidays until March 28.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 117.132,000 million and death toll tops 2.600,000 million.
