COVID-19: Pakistan reports 554 new cases, 8 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 1,278,114 on Wednesday after 554 new cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 472,519 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 441,378 in Punjab, 178,773 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 33,356 in Balochistan, 107,198 in Islamabad, 10,395 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 34,495 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 46,128 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 1.20%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 28,566 with 8 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,226,590 after another 433 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, who also heads the NCOC, said on Wednesday that 50% of Pakistan's eligible population has been vaccinated with at least one dose.

In a post on Twitter the minister wrote, “Reached important milestone of 50% of country's eligible population receiving at least 1 dose. KP became 2nd province to vaccinate half it's eligible population with at least 1 dose. Yesterday was highest vaccination day in Pakistan with 1.7 million doses.”

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 251.623 million and death toll tops 5,081,183.
