COVID-19: Pakistan reports 441 new infections, 6 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 287,950 on Thursday after another 1,444 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 300,100 after 441 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 131,115 cases were reported in Sindh, 97,461 in Punjab, 36,755 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 13,402 in Balochistan, 15,804 in Islamabad, 3,137 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 2,356 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,365 with 6 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has approved reopening of wedding halls and marquees from September 15 with direction of implementing 10-point standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The bride and groom will have to wear a face mask and gloves at their wedding and maintain social distancing as long as they are at the marriage hall, according to SOPs set by the provincial government.

As per the sources in the district administration, wedding halls and marquees would be allowed to accommodate guests only half of the total capacity.

A hall having space of 200 people could only accomodate 100 guests. It is mandatory for waiters and other staffers to wear facemasks as well, and all washrooms must have hand sanitisers.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 27.7 million and death toll tops 900,000.
