COVID-19: Pakistan reports 1,708 new infections, 21 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 320,065 on Wednesday after another 634 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 348,184 after 1,637 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 151,352 cases were reported in Sindh, 107,831 in Punjab, 41,069 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 16,195 in Balochistan, 22,432 in Islamabad, 4,394 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 4,911 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 7,021 with 21 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) on Wednesday recommended fresh restrictions including early and extended winter vacations for students in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The NCOC meeting, chaired by Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar recommended ban on all public gatherings of more than five hundred people, early and extended winter vacations; closure of cinemas, theatres and shrines with immediate effect; and only outdoor dining till 10 pm at restaurants and take away.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 50.3 million and death toll tops 1.27 million.
