COVID-19: Pakistan reports 4,934 new cases, 102 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 1,085,294 on Thursday after 4,934 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 406,109 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 368,195 in Punjab, 150,026 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 31,341 in Balochistan, 92,233 in Islamabad, 9,043 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 28,347 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 59,397 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 8.30%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 24,187 with 102 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 975,474 after another 3,376 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the NCOC on Wednesday announced that complete COVID-19 vaccination certificates would become mandatory for air travel after September 10.

The forum announced that the partial vaccination certificate would become invalid after September 10 “whereas all the provinces had been informed regarding this decision”.

The interval between the first and second doses of all types of vaccines is reduced from 42 days to 28 days, the forum added.

The decision was made in consultation with the Ministry of Health and medical experts, it said.

Earlier on Monday, the NCOC had also announced that only vaccinated individuals would be allowed to travel by train from October 1.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 205.549 million and death toll tops 4,337,636.
