PM Nawaz urges religious scholars to play their role for elimination of extremism

Lahore (Staff Report): Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that Islam is the religion of peace and tolerance, and it is regretable that certain elements distorted this very image by spreading anarchy and bloodshed.

While addressing the National Seerat Conference here on Monday, Nawaz urged the religious scholars to play their role for elimination of root causes of extremism from the society. He maintained the way forward to fight this menace lies in the life and teachings of holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

He pointed out that due to the efforts and sacrifices of the national leadership, religious scholars, armed forces and police the hideouts of the terrorists have almost been eliminated. Now it is the responsibility of the religious scholars to reestablish the link between Islam and peace by taking guidance  from the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet.

Nawaz Sharif said respect of humanity and human life are the inevitable part of Islamic teachings and holy Prophet Muhammad (SAWW) in fact laid the foundation of a society based on high moral values. Being the heirs of the Last Prophet, it is the responsibility of Muslims to revive these very values and norms in our daily life and conduct, Radio Pakistan reported.

Quoting different incidences from the life of holy Prophet (Peace be Upon Him),the Prime Minister said the last Prophet gave first written constitution in the form of Misaq-e-Madina and also the first charter of human rights in his last Hajj Sermon. He said these two documents serve as a beacon of light for us to develop relations with followers of other faiths and religions.

Nawaz Sharif said that Quaid-Azam and Allama Muhammad Iqbal had envisioned Pakistan as a modern Islamic state. The time warrants Ulema to lead the state the society to achieve that long cherished dream.

The title of the moot is 'Interfaith Harmony in the Light of Islamic Teachings and Life of Holy Prophet Muhammad [Peace be Upon Him].
