WhatsApp introduces picture-in-picture video calls feature

California, USA (Web Desk): Facebook-owned messaging platform, WhatsApp has been updated and rolled out two new features for both Android and iOS users-the Picture-in-Picture (PiP) video calling feature, and the text status update.

According to the company, the latest update of popular messaging app allows users to multitask while on a Whatsapp video call with Picture-in-Picture video calling feature.

Although picture-in-picture mode for video calling is only available for users with Android 8.0+ or latest iOS smartphones, it can help people multitask considering how difficult it is to hang up video calls when something urgent comes up. With this feature, if you receive a message on WhatsApp during the video call, you can resize the screen of the video caller to respond to it.

The video of caller can also be dragged to the corner of the mobile screen. Video calling and messaging has been conveniently put together in picture-in-picture mode for video calls on WhatsApp.

It also offers its users Facebook like colorful text-based status feature. Till now, users had an option of setting a video or a photo as a 30-second short status. This feature allows users to choose a solid background color and add the text. Similar to the current status updates, the text status has a validity of 24 hours.

The company has recently announced tools for business customers, who are also getting verified profiles on the service. The company, of course, as you recall is working on bringing support for UPI payments in India, a major functionality in the wake of country's recent interest in digital payments.
