Nawaz, Maryam and Safdar released on parole for Begum Kulsoom's funeral

Islamabad: (Staff Report): Former PM Nawaz Sharif his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar were released from Adiala Jail on parole in early hours of Wednesday and shifted to Lahore to attend the funeral of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.

As per details, Nawaz, Maryam and Capt (retd) Safdar were released on 12-hour parole to attend Begum Kulsoom's funeral. However, the Punjab government announced to extend the parole by three days and Nawaz Sharif's Jati Umra residence has been declared sub-jail.

The Sharif family had requested that a five-day parole be granted to the three, who are currently serving sentences at Adiala Jail.

Nawaz Sharif, Maryam and Safdar were shifted to the Nur Khan Airbase from where they were brought to Lahore via special flight at 2:30am on Wednesday.

Begum Kulsoom Nawaz passed away in London on Tuesday after a months-long battle with cancer. She had been placed on life support earlier on Tuesday as her health began deteriorating.

Death of Kulsoom Nawaz was confirmed by her son Hassan and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz president, Shehbaz Sharif.

Begum Kulsoom travelled to the British capital city in August last year, where she was diagnosed with Lymphoma, prompting Sharif family members to get her admitted to the upscale health facility.

The former first lady, who contested elections from NA-120 Lahore last year, was shifted to the intensive care unit at a UK hospital from the emergency unit after her condition deteriorated ahead of Eid ul Fitr.

She is survived by her husband and four children, Hassan, Hussain, Maryam and Asma.

According to the family sources, her dead body will be brought back to Pakistan and her funeral prayers (Namaz e Janaza) will be offered on Friday.

She will be laid to rest at Jati Umra in Lahore, the family sources added.
