Shahbaz leaves for London to bring back Kulsoom's body

Lahore (Staff Report): Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif left for London on Wednesday to bring back the dead body of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.

He departed from the Allama Iqbal International Airport via a foreign airline flight.

According to reports, the funeral prayers Begum Kulsoom will be offered at the Regent Park mosque in London on Thursday afternoon and her body will be flown to Lahore after completion of legal formalities.

Her body has been moved to a mortuary near the Regent Park mosque in London.

Earlier, former PM Nawaz Sharif his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar were released from Adiala Jail on parole in early hours of Wednesday and shifted to Lahore to attend the funeral of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.

Begum Kulsoom Nawaz passed away in London on Tuesday after a months-long battle with cancer. She had been placed on life support earlier as her health began deteriorating.

Death of Kulsoom Nawaz was confirmed by her son Hassan and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) president, Shehbaz Sharif.

Begum Kulsoom travelled to the British capital city in August last year, where she was diagnosed with Lymphoma, prompting Sharif family members to get her admitted to the upscale health facility.

The former first lady, who contested elections from NA-120 Lahore last year, was shifted to the intensive care unit at a UK hospital from the emergency unit after her condition deteriorated ahead of Eid ul Fitr.

She is survived by her husband and four children, Hassan, Hussain, Maryam and Asma.

According to the family sources, her dead body will be brought back to Pakistan and her funeral prayers (Namaz e Janaza) will be offered on Friday.

She will be laid to rest at Jati Umra in Lahore, the family sources added.
