Karachi (Web Desk): Flamboyant West Indian batsman Chris Gayle created a new world record of most sixes in a T20 innings as he hit 18 massive sixes, helping his side Rangpur Riders win the final of Bangladesh Premier League in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Gayle smashed 18 sixes during his unbeaten innings of 146 off 69 deliveries to break his own previous world record of 17 sixes in a T20 innings.
While raining sixes and smashing bowlers of Dhaka Dynamites in the ground, Chris Gayle also completed 100 sixes in Bangladesh Premier League and became the first player to do so.
Gayle’s tally of total sixes in T20 cricket is now 819 sixes, the most by any batsman.
The second highest is Pollard with 509. He has hit 10-plus sixes in a T20 innings on 15 occasions. No other batsman has hit 10 more than twice, a fact that makes him far ahead than the rest.
The century was 20th hundred of Gayle’s prolific T20 career, the most by any player in the shortest format of official professional cricket.
With this, he also completed 11,000 T20 runs of his career. The most by any player in this format. He also became the only player to have scored 11,000 or more runs in each of all three formats of professional Cricket (First Class, List A and T20).
His individual score, 146*, is also the highest ever in a T20 final.
