Shehbaz, Fawad's bail: Justice Afridi recuses himself from NAB appeal

Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): Supreme Court judge Justice Yahya Afridi has recused himself from hearing the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) appeal challenging bail granted to Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's principal secretary Fawad Hasan Fawad in Ashiana Housing Scheme case.

The three-member bench headed by Justice Azmat Saeed, hearing the NAB appeal against the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) verdict to grant bail to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and former principal secretary in the case, was disbanded after Justice Afridi's recusal.

Justice Afridi said that he is closely acquainted with Fawad Hasan Fawad therefore he will be unable to continue sitting on the bench hearing the case against him.

On Feb 14, a two-member LHC bench granted bail to Shehbaz and Fawad in Ashiana Housing Scheme case.
