COVID-19: Pakistan reports 4,786 new cases, 73 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 1,094,699 on Saturday after 4,786 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 409,578 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 370,599 in Punjab, 151,466 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 31,507 in Balochistan, 93,339 in Islamabad, 9,228 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 28,982 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 59,136 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 8.09%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 24,339 with 73 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 983,754 after another 4,343 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Friday announced that the counters for conducting Rapid Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) tests for COVID-19 have become functional at all international airports of the country.

According to a CAA spokesperson, the services of UAE-accredited Pakistani labs have been made available at the airports.

He said that the counters have started taking rapid PCR tests for the passengers departing from Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Multan, Quetta, Peshawar and Faisalabad airports.

"Airport managers have been instructed by the CAA to provide all facilities and assistance to the passengers," the CAA spokesperson said.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 207.045 million and death toll tops 4,359,708.
