COVID-19: Pakistan reports 5,395 new cases 118 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 739,818 on Thursday after 5,395 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 270,310 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 258,441 in Punjab, 102,290 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 20,580 in Balochistan, 68,066 in Islamabad 5,153 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 14,978 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 15,872 with 118 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 646,652 after another 4,740 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, India reported a record 200,000 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, official data showed Thursday, as the country’s huge second wave accelerates.

The number of new infections in a day has more than doubled since early April, with a cumulative total 14.1 million cases.

India also added 1,038 deaths in the past day, taking the total to almost 175,000, the health ministry data showed, although on a per capita basis India is far behind many other countries.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 136.996 million and death toll tops 2.951 million.
