COVID-19: Pakistan reports 2,459 new infections, 73 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 443,246 on Tuesday after 2,459 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall, 196,962 cases were reported in Sindh, 128,138 in Punjab, 52,787 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 17,771 in Balochistan, 35,045 in Islamabad, 4,793 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 7,750 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 8,905 with 73 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 386,333 after another 1,614 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on National Health Services Dr Faisal Sultan lauded the media for spreading awareness about Covid-19.

Addressing the participants of an online workshop for journalists on Covid-19, he apprised the meeting about the challenges posed by the virus and the measures taken by the government to curb the second wave of the pandemic.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 72.8 million and death toll tops 1.620 million.
