Riyadh (Web Desk): Saudi Arabia’s air defence forces intercepted a ballistic missile fired by Iran's backed Houthi militia over the southern Saudi Arabian city of Jazan on Tuesday, a Saudi-led Arab coalition spokesperson said.

Col. Turki Al-Maliki said that the missile was directed towards populated areas in Jazan province, Arab News reported.

Al-Maliki added that Saudi Arabian air defence units spotted the launch of the missile from the Houthi militia stronghold of Saada in northern Yemen .

The missile , according to the spokesperson, is another example of Iran's continued backing of the militia, and providing militants with new capabilities that is in contravention of all international laws.
