COVID-19: Pakistan reports 2,714 new cases, 73 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 1,212,809 on Wednesday after 2,714 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 446,840 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 416,901 in Punjab, 169,429 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 32,658 in Balochistan, 103,293 in Islamabad 10,198 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 33,490 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

As per the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) data, 56,733 tests were conducted in last 24 hours while positivity ratio remained 4.78%.

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 26,938 with 73 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 1,108,339 after another 10,923 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, Pakistan received another tranche of 3.5 million Pfizer anti-Covid vaccines from the United States (US) on Wednesday.

This takes the total "number of COVID-19 vaccine doses donated by the United States to Pakistan to 15.7 million," the US Embassy in Islamabad said in a tweet.

Earlier, the US had shipped 6.6 million doses of Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines to Pakistan through COVAX to assist the country in vaccinating its population against the coronavirus.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 226.685 million and death toll tops 4,663,324.
