Pakistan welcomes North-South Korea talks

Islamabad (Agencies): Pakistan welcomes the recent high-level diplomatic talks between North Korea and South Korea that were held between the two countries for the first time in more than two years, said a press release issued by Foreign Office (FO) of Pakistan on Tuesday.

According to the statement, Foreign Office spokesperson said Pakistan hoped that this new phase of talks between the two sides would help ease tensions in the Korean Peninsula.

It said the goodwill generated by the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics would lead to lasting peace, prosperity, stability, reconciliation and cooperation in the region.

Pakistan has always encouraged Democratic People's Republic of Korea (commonly known as “North Korea”) and Republic of Korea to resume meaningful negotiations and supported all efforts for smooth reunification of the Korean Peninsula including the two Summits between North and South Korea in June 2000 and 2007.
