LHC rejects petitions to initiate treason case against Nawaz Sharif

Lahore (Staff Report): The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday rejected petitions urging to launch treason case against ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif over his statements regarding 2008 Mumbai attacks.

According to details, LHC not only rejected the petitions urging to launch treason case against Nawaz Sharif under Article 6 but also directed the petitioners to move the right forum in this regard.

It is pertinent to remember that Justice Shams Mahmood Mirza on Wednesday reserved the verdict regarding maintainability of the petitions filed by General Secretary Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Khurram Nawaz Gandapur and two other members of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Mian Mehmood Al Rasheed and Dr. Murad Raas.

The petitioner claims that that the Nawaz’s statement was against national security and state institutions and urged the court to start high treason proceedings against him under Article 6 of the Constitution.
