COVID-19: Pakistan reports 545 new infections, 6 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 291,169 on Thursday after another 409 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose to 303,634 after 545 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country.

Overall, 132,818 cases were reported in Sindh, 98,041 in Punjab, 37,185 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 13,798 in Balochistan, 16,005 in Islamabad, 3,336 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 2,451 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's Covid-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached 6,399 with 6 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) on Thursday said at least 22 educational institutes across the country have been shut down in the last 48 hours for not complying with government-issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for curbing the spread of Covid-19.

Moreover, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has warned that the novel coronavirus is driving discrimination towards vulnerable communities in Asia, including migrants and foreigners.

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 30 million and death toll tops 944,000.
